3,000 year old Buhen Fortress of Egypt

New Discovery

It seems that discoveries are being made daily.  This might be the result of better technology assisting the archaeologist to find these locations.

Today’s story is about the finding of a sunken fortress. The fortress dates back to Egypt’s Middle Kingdom around 3,000 B.C.

This was during the reign of King Senusret III. He had many Castles and fortress built during his reign.

These were designed to protect Egypt from attacks from people of the south. The time was 1860 B.C..

The Buhen Fortress as it is known today could house up to 1,000 Soldiers, and its walls were made of bricks, it was 5 meters thick.

In 1964 the fortress became submerged under Lake Nasser. The ministry of Antiquities says that they did not look for it because they felt that since it was under water there would not be much left to find.
